Every welding machine operator knows how important it is to service welding equipment. But is preventative maintenance really worth it, is there really a need and why do a check-up when everything is working smoothly?
There answer is: It’s definitely worth it!!
First of all, the Polish standard PN-EN974-4 – Periodic inspection and testing while in operation – concerning the use of welding equipment clearly specifies, or even requires, the equipment to be tested and inspected at least once a year.
Another standard PN-EN 50504 – Validation of arc welding equipment – defines the scope of tests to be performed in terms of the safety of the device operation (the test consists in checking whether the assumed parameters on the device are actually performed in the welding process).
The inspection also includes: ongoing maintenance of the device / vacuum cleaning, blowing, checking the electrical and screw connections, and sometimes early detection of any malfunctions that could later lead to a more serious failure of the device.
