Welding enthusiasts and die-hard football fans will surely be interested in the fact that there is a football club made-up of professional… welders!
We’re not joking! Who are we talking about?
Harland & Wolff Welders Football Club -a semi-professional football club from Northern Ireland! The club was established in 1965 on the initiative of welders working in the famous Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast. Interestingly the club is represented by two colors – black and amber. There’s a reason behind this. These colors symbolize the relationship with the Harland & Wolff shipyard and its famous cranes (Samson and Goliath are twin cranes named after biblical characters, which are the landmarks of the city of Belfast). The shipyard was founded in 1861 by Edward Harland (an entrepreneur from Yorkshire) and Gustav Wolff (from Germany). It is worth noting that at the beginning of the 20th century, this shipyard was the world’s leading builder of passenger ocean liners. During World War II, it dealt with, inter alia, the construction of aircraft carriers, cruisers and other warships, as well as the production of tanks and artillery elements. And what’s interesting – the most famous ship in the world – RMS Titanic – was launched here!
We encourage you to visit the official website of the club and get to know this extraordinary welding team:
